FOREIGN MINISTER ELECTED AS MONGOLIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY PRESIDENT

The largest international humanitarian organization in Mongolia, the Mongolian Red Cross Society (MRCS) convened its regular National Conference, which is held every four years, on August 10-11, 2023.

The Mongolian Red Cross Society, established in 1939 gathered more than 100 representatives from its branches in the capital city and 21 aimags and delegates from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for the Conference.

At the Conference, the Mongolian Red Cross Society presented its successful initiatives and works implemented in the past, overviewing the results. Policies and regulations of the MRCS, such as the “Strategy-2030,” and organizational rules were revised and ratified. Moreover, Board Members, including its President, Deputy President, and Chairs of some committees were newly elected.

Member of Parliament N. Enkhbold announced his decision to step down from the position of President of the Mongolian Red Cross Society, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia B. Battsetseg was elected as the new President of the MRCS by a unanimous vote. Ms. Battsetseg is expected to bring a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as a Member of the Board of the MRCS since 2014 and Deputy President of the Society since 2019.

“The staff and volunteers of the Mongolian Red Cross Society have been working actively and promptly on the front- line alongside emergency and healthcare workers, providing additional support and making valuable contributions to the Government in protecting lives and supporting the livelihoods of our citizens during natural disasters and epidemics. I am committed to actively working to increase civil participation in humanitarian activities, enhance the capacity of the MRCS, improve skills at all levels, make it more accessible, and foster multilateral cooperation with the Government and international organizations,” said newly elected MRCS President Battsetseg.
